This year’s tournament is especially significant as it was initially set to take place in Bangladesh. However, due to political issues, the event was moved to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The games will be played across two major cricket venues in the UAE—Sharjah and Dubai—marking a major shift from the tournament's original location in the Asian Sub-continent.

The UAE will be hosting 23 matches throughout the tournament, with the final match scheduled for October 20, 2024. The change in venue has not diminished the enthusiasm of the fans or players, and Google’s tribute through its doodle only adds to the spirit.

Tournament Format and Teams

The Women's T20 World Cup 2024 features ten teams divided into two groups. Group A includes the defending champion Australia, along with India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and New Zealand. Group B consists of South Africa, England, the West Indies, Bangladesh, and Scotland, the latter making their debut in the competition.

During the group stage, each team will play against the other teams in their group. The top two teams from both groups will advance to the knockout stage, which consists of the semifinals. The winners of the semi-final matches will then compete in the final, vying for the prestigious T20 trophy.
