Young girls across the country are proving their mettle in chosen fields. This time, two students of Lucknow University have been selected to represent India at the 14th Asian cross-country championship.
The girls, Kavita Yadav and Khushbu Gupta, are currently in the first year of BA. They are among the four under-20 athletes selected for the championship, to be held on March 15 in Guiyang, China.
Qualifiers in Goa
The qualifiers were held last week in Goa. More than 600 athletes from the country participated in it. Both the athletes will be participating in the 6km race.
A dream come true
"I hail from Barabanki and my father is a farmer. It was his dream to see me compete with international-level players," said Kavita Yadav.

She added that she has won a number of medals at the state and national level but this would be the first time she would compete for an international-level medal.
Kavita expressed her ardent desire to prove that Indian women are best in sports in Asia.

Khushbu has also been nurturing the dream of making the country proud in the global arena.
"We were the only two who participated in the qualifiers from UP. Initially, we were nervous but our hard work and more than 12-hour practice per day helped us," Khushbu told TOI.
