Agra Girl Allegedly forcibly converted: According to the police, the girl went missing a few days before the alleged conversion and returned home pregnant. The local police have arrested the accused' father, mother and sister while the prime accused is on a run.
The family members of the minor filed a complaint with the police accusing a man identified as Kasim Quereshi, of forcefully converted their daughter to Islam. The parents alleged that the man married their daughter against her wish, the police said on Saturday.
The Agra police have now arrested five people concerning the case, however, 18-year-old Quereshi is currently absconding and the police are yet to get a hold of him, according to a report by the PTI.
The accused was a resident of the Naseerabad area in Agra. According to the complaint filed by the girl's father, the minor was missing for over two weeks when she returned home on July 1. Her parents then found out that she was pregnant, Hariparwat Police Station Senior Sub Inspector Amit Prasad said.
The girl's father registered the complaint against Quereshi on July 2.
Prasad added that the youth used to visit the girl's house under the guise of a Hindu boy, Vicky Yadav. Quereshi's sister also told her name as Sonam Yadav.
Recently, protests took place in Jammu and Kashmir over the alleged forced conversion of women in the valley. According to reports, the girls were allegedly abducted, forcibly converted and married without the consent of the families.
The Akal Takht, Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD) and other Sikh communities demanded safety measures in the valley for the protection of minorities, calling for the imposition of anti-conversion laws, following the said occurrence.
The protests were led by SAD leader Manjinder Sirsa. According to Sirsa, Home Minister Amit Shah has assured the girls will be returned to their families and necessary measures will be taken for the same.
