14 Women among 85 Padma Awardees 2018

The Central Government has announced the recipients of Padma awards in various categories for 2018. The list comprises of three Padma Vibhushan, nine Padma Bhushan and 73 Padma Shri Awardees. Among the 85 persons who have been conferred the awards, 14 of them are women. Here's a list of those Padma Awardees 2018

Padma Bhushan

Sharda Sinha

Sharda Sinha is the most celebrated and renowned singer of Bihar who sings in Maithili, Bhojpuri and Magahi languages. She is known for her version of the Chhath Puja themed song "Pahele Pahil Hum Kayeni Chhath'.

Padma Shri

Rani Bang

Rani Bang is an Indian social activists and researchers working in the field of community health in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra. She, along with Abhay Bang, revolutionized healthcare for the poorest people in India.

Saikhom Mirabai Chanu

She is an female weightlifter who won Gold medal in the 48 kg category at 2017 World Weightlifting Championships held in Anaheim , United States. Earlier she had won medals in Commonwealth games and silver medal in the women's 48 kg weight class at the 2014 at Glasgow. 

Langpoklakpam Subadani Devi

An award-winning weaver and entrepreneur, Subadani has enabled Manipuri women to practise weaving along with their familial commitments.

Sitavva Joddati

She is a 60-year-old former Devadasi from Karnataka who worked for the empowerment of Devadasis and Dalit women.

Malti Joshi

Malti Joshi is a  nationally-acclaimed Hindi writer and novelist. She has written two novels and 35 stories, and has been honoured with a string of awards from both MP and Maharashtra.

Lakshmikutty

Ms Lakshmikutty who prepared 500 tribal medicines from memory has helped the recovery of over a thousand people of snake bite and insect bites.  She gives lectures on natural medicines in institutions across south India.

Joyshree Goswami Mahanta

She is a famous Assamese writer and a former Member of Parliament.

Subhasini Mistry

Subhasini Mistry is a poor lady from rural West Bengal. Infact, she toiled 20 years as domestic help and daily labourer to build a hospital for poor in the State.

Lentina Ao Thakkar

Lentina Ao Thakkar is a Gandhian who has served for decades at a Gandhi Ashram in Nagaland.

Sulagatti Narasimma

A 90 year old farm labourer, she provides midwifery services in backward areas of Karnataka. A a resident of Krishnapura village of Pavagada taluk, Narasamma, has performed over 1,500 deliveries over the years.

Vijayalakshmi Navaneethakrishnan

Vijayalakshmi Navaneethakrishnan is a former professor in the department of folk arts and culture at Madurai Kamaraj University. She has dedicated her entire life towards the preservation of Tamil folk and tribal music. Besides that, she has co-authored 11 books and has recorded over 10,000 cassettes of folk music.

V Nanammal

V Nanammal is a 98-year-old yoga instructor in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. She is India's oldest woman yoga instructor and can do more than 20 yoga asanas with complete flexibility.

Nouf Marwaai 

Nouf Marwaai is the first certified yoga instructor in Saudi Arabia and founder of Arab Yoga Foundation, Japan, Indonesia and the US.
