In a horrific case, a 100-year-old woman, who was bedridden, died after she was raped by a 35-year-old drunk man. The incident occurred in Jaani village in Meerut on Sunday night. Police have arrested the accused, Ankit Punia. He has been charged with rape, murder and sections of the SC/ST Act.
The woman’s grandson said that she was too weak to resist, and only uttered feeble cries during the assault.

"We rushed to where she was and were horrified to find the man forcing himself on her," her 40-year-old grandson said.
The hospital said that the woman was brought in a really bad condition, and she died there. The accused, Punia, said that he was innocent and has not committed any crimes.

Incidents like these seem to be increasing day by day.

For those who say the 'woman is asking for it', these incidents should show them that that is simply never the case. Age, physical condition, dress, doesn't seem to matter. In many parts of India, merely being a woman puts you at risk.
Earlier this month, a 60-year-old woman was gangraped in the Jaitaran police station area in Rajasthan's Pali district. Two men had raped her when she was working in the fields.
