A news report has emerged suggesting that the deceased Hathras girl was in touch with the rapists. Aaj Tak channel's report says that there were more than 100 calls between the main accused and the young Dalit girl who was gang raped and murdered.
The police in Uttar Pradesh claims, says the Aaj Tak report, that the 19-year-old woman, who succumbed to her injuring 15 days after she was raped, was in constant touch with the main accused of the case. Sandeep Singh of the same village is the main accused in this horrific rape case, that's now made headlines the world over.
Four upper men raped the girl on 14th September when she went to collect fodder in the field with her family. The girl died on 29th September in a hospital in Delhi.
The UP police has come under criticism both from citizens and the courts for their handling of the Hathras gang rape case involving a young girl from the Dalit community. Questions are being raised about how the police not just handled the case and the complaint but also that it allegedly interfered with the girl's cremation and kept her family out.
The was cremated in the early hours of September 30. While the family claimed the cremation was carried out against their wishes, the police said the last rights in the dead of the night were held "as per the wishes of the family".
The Hathras gang rape case has triggered outrage across the country, not just bringing citizens out to the streets to protest but also questioning the effectiveness of the UP government in managing the investigation.
Chief Minister assured me that SIT team has been formed & case has also been referred to CBI. I believe fair investigation will be done and justice will be served: Smriti Irani, Union Minister for Women & Child Development on #Hathras case. pic.twitter.com/R4lMB2ayHl
