Actor and television host VJ Chitra, known for her work in Pandian Stores was found dead in a Chennai hotel room on December 9. While the police has confirmed that the actor died by suicide her family has alleged that her husband was physically abusive. VJ Chitra got engaged to Hemanth in August and the couple was set to marry in January. However, they reportedly had a registered marriage two months ago. He was also the last person to have spoken with Chitra before her alleged suicide.

1. On Wednesday, December 9, VJ Chitra, who is popular for playing Mullai in the hit serial Pandian Stores, a Tamil language drama, was found dead in a hotel room in Nazrathpet, Chennai. She reportedly died by suicide.
2. The 29-year-old actor, who was reportedly shooting at EVP film city till late night on Wednesday, had reportedly checked into the room at around 2:30 am, according to her husband Hemanth, who is a businessman. In his earlier statement, he told police that Chitra went for a bath soon after returning from the shoot. However, after sometime when she didn’t come out Hemanth started knocking at the door and called the hotel staff who used a duplicate key to open the door. They reportedly found the actor hanging from a ceiling fan.
3. After a postmortem doctors on Thursday confirmed that her death was a suicide and that there was no foul play involved, police said, TOI reported. However, allegations made by her family will be probed. “We are making further inquiries into the case,” an investigating officer told TNM.
4. The Regional Divisional Officer (RDO) will begin an investigation in the case of VJ Chitra’s death on December 14. An RDO investigation takes place when a married woman, who has been married for seven years or less, dies in a suspicious manner. In this case, VJ Chitra had been married to Hemanth for close to two months and he was also the person who to the actor before her death.
5. VJ Chitra's father, a retired cop, lodged a police complaint with the Nazarathpet Police station asking for a fair probe into her death. Her family members have alleged foul play in the case, following which police had questioned her husband Hemanth and the hotel employees who helped him open the door of the hotel room in which she was found dead.
6. Chitra’s mother, Vijaya Kamaraj, told reporters that she suspects the actor suffered physical violence at hands of her son-in-law Hemanth, TOI reported. "She was beaten to death…,” adding, “She spoke to me on Tuesday saying she was on a show and that it would be late. Morning her father-in-law called sharing the news. How could it be?," Vijaya said.
7. Back in September, Chitra had posted a message for Hemanth on Instagram writing, "I am who I am because of you. We may have our challenges, our stumbles and our disagreements, but as long as we are still together and love one another, nothing else matters."
8. According to multiple reports, VJ Chitra had been dealing with depression. Her last social media post was from late Tuesday night, in which she had shared a picture of herself from a photoshoot.
9. Police also suspect financial issues being the reason behind her suicide, NDTV reported. A senior police officer said, “She had registered her marriage only recently. We suspect finance issues. We have not recovered any suicide note. The post-mortem is over.”
10.On December 15, VJ Chithra's husband Hemanth was arrested by the police for alleged abetment of suicide. He reportedly "did not like a scene she had enacted on TV. On the day she died, he had also pushed her,” Assistant Commissioner of Police Sudarshan said, revealing that Hemanth was furious about some intimate scenes Chitra shot for a television serial.
