Indian techie pregnant wife death case: Indian couple Balaji Bharat Rudrawar and his wife Arati Balaji Rudrawar were found dead on Wednesday at their apartment in the Riverview Gardens complex in New Jersey, United States. Neighbours found the couple's four-year-old daughter crying alone on the balcony and alerted the police, family sources said on Friday. The couple were reportedly stabbed and the US authorities are now investigating the case.
Here are ten things to know about the tragic death of the couple from Maharashtra:
1. 32-year-old IT professional Balaji and his wife Arati, who was in her 30s, were living in an apartment located at 21 Garden Terrace, North Arlington. They moved to the US in August 2015 after they got married in December 2014.
2. Balaji Rudrawar was working in New Jersey for a prominent Indian infotech company and his wife was a homemaker.
3. Arati was seven months pregnant, her father-in-law Bharat Rudrawar told news agency PTI in Mumbai. "I am not aware of any possible motive. They were a happy family and had lovely neighbours."
4. The county prosecutor's office said in a press release that the local police had to force their way inside the apartment and found the couple dead.
5. Balaji allegedly stabbed and sliced Arati in the abdomen as she was trying to fight him off in their living room, a US media report said.
6. Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said in a statement that on April 7, police arrived at the apartment at 5:40 pm after receiving a 911 call from a neighbour asking for a welfare check on the residents. "Officers forced entry into the apartment and found a deceased male and female," the statement said.
7. The North Arlington Police Department and the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit are investigating the deaths of the couple. "The local police there informed me of the tragedy on Thursday. There is no clarity yet on the cause of the death. The US police said they will share findings of the autopsy report," Bharat Rudrawar said.
8. Maharashtra's Beed district-based Bharat Rudrawar is a businessman from the temple town, which is situated around 500 km from Mumbai.
9. Investigators are now waiting for the medical examiner to determine the cause and circumstances of the death but confirmed both the deceased had been stabbed.
10. After necessary formalities, the bodies will reach India in at least 8-10 days. The couple's four-year-old daughter is currently with friends of the family in New Jersey. "My granddaughter is now with a friend of my son. He had several friends in the local Indian community, which has a 60 per cent population in New Jersey," Bharat Rudrawar said.
