10 Things To Know About Kitty Kumaramangalam Murder Case

Kitty Kumaramangalam murder case: Former union minister, Phanindranath Rangarajan Kumaramangalam’s wife was murdered at their South Delhi home on Tuesday night. The 67-year-old was smothered to death during a robbery attempt at her place.

Kumaramangalam was a former Supreme Court lawyer, whose husband, PR Kumaramangalam was elected to Lok Sabha in 1984. He went on to serve as Union Minister of State, Parliamentary Affairs and Law, Justice and Company Affairs between 1991 and 92, Parliamentary Affairs Minister between 1992 and 93, and the later as Power Minister in 1998.

Here are 10 things you need to know about Kitty Kumaramangalam murder case:

1. The police have detained a suspect and currently looking for two others. The suspect, Raju Lakhan is a resident of Bhanwar Singh Camp near Vasant Vihar. He is identified as the locality's washerman (dhobi).
2. DCP (South-West district, Ingit Pratap Singh said the deceased used to live along in Vasant Vihar.
3.  The suspect came to the victim's house around 9 pm and as soon as the maid opened the door, he allegedly used force and dragged her to a room.
4. Lakhan and his associated then reportedly restrained Kitty Kumaramangalam.
5. When she tried to raise an alarm, they reportedly suffocated Kumaramangalam using a pillow and then fled.
6. According to the police, they received a call about the incident at around 11 pm from Kumaramangalam's domestic help, Manju.
7. She alleged that the incident happened around 9 p.m.
8. Reportedly, they slipped away with some money and jewelry.
9. Later, the neighbours rushed in at the scene of crime and Kumaramangalam's house help Manju was moved to a nearby hospital where she is still recovering.
10. The police have informed Kitty Kumaramangalam's son, who lives in Bengaluru, about the incident and have arrested the prime accused, while the hunt is on for his two associates.
