Here are ten things you should know about Cyclone Nivar:

1. IMD noted the cyclonic storm was christened Cyclone Nivar by Iran, and is the first in the region this year, TOI reported.

2. IMD said parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, such as Villupuram, Cuddalore and Chennai, are expected to witness landfall on Wednesday noon or afternoon and rainfall of 6cm-10cm is expected while the winds could reach the speed of 100 kmph during the landfall.

4. S Balachandran, deputy director-general of Regional Meteorological Center, Chennai, said, “Rain will start in coastal districts on Monday and will intensify step by step. On Tuesday and Wednesday, some areas on the coast will receive heavy rain and very heavy rain."

5. "Fishermen should not venture into the sea till November 25,” Balachandran added saying that chances are high that heavy rain will start in the city and its suburbs on Tuesday itself.

9. Visakhapatnam and East Godavari districts are also likely to receive light to moderate rains.
