Dr. Sheetal  Amte-Karjagi, the granddaughter of social worker Murlidhar D. Amte (Baba Amte), was found dead at the famous Anandwan Ashram on Monday morning.  According to reports, she died by suicide by injecting herself this morning. The investigation is still in the preliminary stage and further enquiries are underway.

1. Dr. Sheetal, born in Warora in Maharashtra, was the Chief Executive Officer and board member of Maharogi Sewa Samiti, a non-profit organization that helps people with leprosy.
2. Sheetal was a medical doctor, disability specialist, social entrepreneur, and motivational speaker.
3. Amte studied medicine and joined her family working at Anandwan to fuel her grandfather's vision. Her brother works as an accountant at Anandwan while her aunt Mandakini Amte and uncle Prakash Amte are doctors at the Anandwan community.
4. Moreover, expanding the good deeds of her family, Dr. Sheetal founded ‘Mashaal’ and ‘Chirag’, the exclusive leadership training programs for motivating medical professionals across India.
5. In addition to that, Dr. Sheetal had also set up a centre called ‘Nijbal’. The centre was built for offering a complete suite of services for the rehabilitation of the disabled.
6. Sheetal was also awarded a grant by Lancet Commission on Global Surgery and WHO alliance for setting up ‘Centre for Excellence for Medical Leadership, Ethics, and Motivation’.
7.  While working for Anandwan, Sheetal also served on the Advisory Board of the Indian Institute of Public Health and Public Health Foundation of India.
8. Dr. Sheetal was an adviser to Express Public Health Awards and a member of the Jury of Express Healthcare Awards.
9. In January 2016, Dr. Sheetal was selected by the world economic forum as ‘young global leader 2016’.
10. In April 2016, Sheetal was selected as a UN Innovation Ambassador.
