Actress Poonam Pandey has been booked by the Goa Police for an alleged “vulgar” public shoot. Going by news reports, her shoot caused a furore in the state, inviting legal trouble. Today, she was detained for questioning in the matter. Read an opinion on it here.
Here are 10 things to know about Pandey's arrest:
1. Poonam Pandey, an Indian model known for her controversial and "explicit" media content, was down south in Goa, reportedly shooting for a video. She was staying at a five-star hotel at Sinquerim in North Goa, according to The Hindu.
2. On November 4, a complaint was filed against her for shooting the said video at Chapoli Dam, which is government property, after the Water Resources department that supervises the area took notice.
3. Pandey has reportedly been booked under section 294 (obscenity) of the Indian Penal Code.
4. A Calangute police team detained her and later handed her over to the Canacona police. Residents in and around the area of Canacona also demanded action against the authorities that allowed the shoot to happen on the premises.
5. Ramesh Tawadkar, Former Goa minister and BJP leader, claimed that the police provided protection for the shooting, NDTV reports.
6. Deputy Superintendent of Police, Nelson Albuquerque, was quoted in Hindustan Times saying, "A case was registered against Pandey after she was spotted in the video which has gone viral. She has been booked for obscene gestures, trespassing on the government property, and for shooting and distributing an indecent video."
7. It is reported that an FIR has been filed against person(s) involved in the shoot, and a suspension order has been served to two cops for allowing “misuse of government machinery.”
8. Politically too, the shoot drew wide flak. There was outrage by the women’s wing of the Goa Forward Party. The political party's spokesperson, Durgadas Kamat, also demanded the resignation of the Chief Minister. "Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) normally issued permission for the shoot in Goa. The Chief Minister is the chairman of the ESG. The BJP government led by Pramod Sawant is promoting Goa as porn destination which is bringing bad name to the state."

10. Social media has been quick to point out the hypocrisy in both Soman and Pandey's cases, wherein the former was cheered for promoting body positivity while the latter is facing police detainment.
