Falguni Shah has been nominated for Grammy 2021 in the Best Children’s Album section for her song Crayons are wonderful. The New York-based singer-songwriter was supposed to walk the red carpet at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on January 3 but the awards have been postponed due to the pandemic.

Here are 10 things to know about Indian Origin Grammy Nominee Falguni Shah
- This is not the first time when she is getting nominated for Grammys. Before this, she became the only Indian woman to be nominated for the Grammys in 2019 for her album Falu’s Bazaar in the Best Children’s Album category at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards. She said in an interview that the the album was an attempt to reassure her son of his roots and identity.
- Born and raised in Mumbai, Falguni goes by the stage name Falu Shah.
- She started singing at the age of three under the influence of her mother and grandma who were musicians too. Her brother Darshan also learned the Tabla.
- She mastered the art of Jaipur musical tradition and in the Benares style of Thumri as a youngster.
- She studied music further under the mentorship of Ustad Sultan Khan, and the legendary Kishori Amonkar, a leading Indian classical vocalist belonging to the Jaipur Gharana.
- Over the years, she has gained recognition for her extraordinary ability to blend modern aesthetics with Indian classics.
- She considers music maestro A R Rehman to be her idol. She has also performed with him at the White House in 2009 for former US President Barack Obama.
- She has earned collaboration with a range of high-profile international musicians including Wyclef Jean, Philip Glass, Ricky Martin, Blues Traveler and Yo-Yo Ma
- One of her achievements include her appointment by the illustrious Carnegie Hall as the Ambassador of Indian Music in 2006.
