Here's How Sushmita Sen-Renee's Relationship Redefines Motherhood

Sushmita Renee relationship: Actor and former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen's adopted daughter Renee turns 22 today.

It was in the year 2000 that Sen adopted Renee. The actor was only 24 years old at that time. In her heartwarming Instagram post, Sen wished her daughter calling her "My First Love." As Renee adds another year to her life, here's revisiting how her relationship with Sen has given a spin to the traditional definition of motherhood in India.

In February last year, a fan asked Renee if she knew who her real mother was during an 'Ask Me Anything' session on Instagram. Apparently, the user was only "curious" to know the answer to this question. They added, "Sus ma'am is fab we all know." Renee had a befitting reply to this question. "I am born to my mother's heart. This is as real as it gets," she said. In the same session, she opened up about her relationship with her mother saying that it is the most "freeing and encouraging" relationship. She further said that it is wholesome just like every child-parent relationship.

Renee Sen, who did her acting debut with the short film Suttabaazi revealed to ETimes that she loved her childhood. Her mother was "really relaxed." She further elaborated that though Sen valued discipline, she gave her children their own space and never pressurised them in any way. "She is really motivating. I am so happy I can talk to her," she said adding that their relationship has now changed since they are in the same field.

In an interview, Renee revealed that being Sushmita Sen’s daughter, she was aware of her privileges. She then went on to say that she is very blessed to have a mother like her. Sen brought up her daughters to be strong and have an identity of their own.

In Sen’s opinion, she took the "wisest decision" at the age of 24 to become a mother. She said to The Indian Express that it stabilised her life. Though people thought it to be a great act of charity and wonderful action, for Sen, it was "self-preservation". "It was me protecting myself," she said.

Sen believes that in natural birth, the mother and the child connect through the umbilical cord but in adoption, they are connected by a higher power and that cannot be cut off. The mother of two, Renee and Alisah said that she has had the privilege of experiencing it twice. She considered herself to be a mother who has given birth from the heart. “I have never missed a day of feeling the joy of motherhood,” the actor added.

The Sushmita Renee relationship is a live example of how blood relations don’t always define the depth of a bond. There can be no definition of a "real mother" or a "real daughter". Very often, the relationships which we choose for ourselves hold much more value than the ones naturally bestowed upon us.
