The top question on the internet after the disappearance and alleged death of American vlogger Gabby Petito is: Where is Brian Laundrie, her boyfriend? Three days after Petito was reported missing on September 11, Laundrie too went missing, launching a search involving officials from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) around the states of Wyoming and Florida.
Social media users have taken a high interest in the double disappearance case that has captured global headlines, given its mysterious circumstances. Petito and Laundrie, engaged to be married, had left New York in June this year on a four-month-long cross-country trip around the US. After Laundrie returned home to Florida alone on September 1, suspicion arose over the whereabouts of Petito. Follow the case here.
Human remains police said were "consistent" with Petito's description were recovered from Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming over the weekend. Forensic analysis later this week will reportedly confirm the identity of the corpse.
Laundrie, 23, and Petito, 22, met each other while attending school and ran a vlogging platform Nomadic Statik together, documenting their travels. They were sharing videos from their recent travel online too, post which they went missing. Read about them here.
Where Is Brian Laundrie? Hot Question In Double Missing Persons' Case Of YouTubers
Investigating officers reportedly said Laundrie refrained from talking during interrogation in Petito's missing case. He was named a "person of interest". On September 14, the last time his parents say they saw him, Laundrie allegedly left for a hiking trip around a Florida reserve.
Searches by the North Port police and FBI around the 25,000-acre Carlton Reserve, where Laundrie is suspected to have gone, have not yielded results so far and officials say they have "exhausted" their avenues there. Experts quoted in CNN believe the failure to locate Laundrie at the reserve is only expanding the search for him to wider geography, indicating he might be in a car or be travelling by foot.
FBI officials Monday concluded a search for evidence at the home of Laundrie's parents, where Petito also lived. They towed a vehicle and collected boxes of items. The search warrant reportedly included details of certain texts sent to Petito's mother's phone. She has previously also flagged her doubts over the authenticity of messages from Petito after August 24, which is when she last saw her over video call. Details here.
