Gouri Sankar: Ahead of West Bengal assembly elections, the withdrawal from the ruling party Trinamool Congress (TMC) continues with two senior leaders switching to Bharatiya Janata Party.
On Wednesday, after being denied nominations for the assembly polls by TMC, Bengal Minister Bachchu Hansda and Tehatta MLA Gouri Sankar Dutta joined BJP.
The Minister of State for North Bengal Development, Bachchu Hansda, joined the BJP, the party yearning to capture power in the state. The MLA from Tehatta in Nadia, Gouri Sankar Dutta, is a veteran politician. Dutta’s exodus from TMC is anticipated to rock the ruling party weeks ahead of the high-stakes election.
The additions to the party were made in presence of its state president Dilip Ghosh. He is a two-time MLA from the Tapan seat in the Dakshin Dinajpur district.
Earlier, apart from the two former TMC leaders, Bengali actors Rajshree Rajbanshi and Bonny Sengupta joined the party.
In this week, five TMC legislators, including four-time Satgachia MLA Sonali Guha and Singur MLA Rabindranath Bhattacharya, have taken an exit from their former party to switch to BJP after they were dropped by the ruling party from its candidate list.
So far, 26 TMC MLAs and two MPs have switched over to the BJP since the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
