News Report Claims Arnab Goswami May Have Paid Lakhs To Boost TV Ratings

According to the latest news report Republic TV's Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami may allegedly have bribed Partho Dasgupta, former CEO of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) to push up his channel's television ratings.

Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Vaze told The Indian Express that Dasgupta had admitted to Goswami meeting him at least three times in separate hotels in Mumbai. Allegedly, Dasgupta also confessed to receiving payments “worth lakhs in cash and once in US dollars.” Inspector Vaze said that Goswami and Dasgupta had worked together at Times Now.

According to the news report, Dasgupta used the payments to purchase jewellery and other valuables. “A Tag Heuer watch worth approximately Rs 1 lakh and imitation jewellery and stones worth Rs 2.22 lakh have been seized from his residence,” police said.

The police, while disclosing the investigation report to metropolitan magistrate’s court, said, "When Dasgupta was the CEO of the  Broadcast Audience Research Council, Arnab Goswami and other accused in the case have illegally tried to manipulate and increase the TRPs of Republic Bharat Hindi news channel and Republic TV English news channel. As per the investigation, it has been established that Goswami paid Dasgupta in lakhs on several occasions,”
