Urvi and Vishal love story
"In 2008, I was 16 when I crossed paths with Vishal, the new boy in our school. At first, our personalities seemed quite the opposite. He was outgoing and enjoyed being the centre of attention, while I tended to be reserved and preferred limited interaction with others. However, they say opposites attract, and that's exactly what happened between us. Fast forward to 2009, and we officially started dating.
One month into our relationship, my parents found out about Vishal. My phone was taken away, and I was monitored at all times by my parents or sister. My parents gave me the silent treatment, and I had no one to speak to. I felt like my world had come crashing down, and my mental health hit rock bottom.
Back in the day, our school had a counsellor who visited once a week, and I booked a session with her. The counsellor said it would just be between us and that session would only help me cope. However, the unexpected happened, and the counsellor called my mom and asked her to visit the school. To this day, I don't know what happened in that meeting, but it changed things for me at home. My mom started talking to me and was open to discussing topics she had never imagined discussing with me before. My relationship with my dad also got better over the months, only because he thought I had broken up with Vishal.
Despite the restrictions, Vishal and I figured out how to meet and be together. We were together for eight years before tying the knot, and we have been happily married ever since. It wasn't easy, though. Vishal is Marwari, and I am Gujarati, and it was the first love marriage in both our households. It took a lot of drama on both ends to convince our families, but in the end, all was well, and we started a new trend of love marriages in our families.
I am amazed at how things have turned out. Vishal has won over my parents completely. His name, which was once considered taboo in my household, is now uttered with great respect and affection as ‘Vishal Kumar Ji.’ He has become like the son my parents always wanted but never had.”
