Who says fashion is limited to a particular body shape? As they say, "Fashion should empower, not exclude." While we hear that no size should be excluded from the joy of dressing well, there have been times when brands were catering to a limited bracket of sizes. Times have changed now, and many homegrown brands have emerged creating the style statement. We've made an exclusive list of brands championing body positivity and setting major fashion goals!

Inclusivity isn’t a trend—it’s a responsibility

Spirit Animal

Kriteesha Jain started Spirit Animal in 2019 after being struck by the irony that society encourages curvy people to hit the gym and lose weight, yet no brands provide appropriate gym wear for them. Spirit Animal is an activewear and athleisure brand for women, catering specifically to mid and plus-size individuals.

"At Spirit Animal, while we deeply respect the body positivity movement, we find ourselves more aligned with the philosophy of body neutrality. For us, body neutrality shifts the focus from how your body looks to what it can do, encouraging a healthier, more balanced relationship with oneself. You would never hear us say things like “thick thighs saves lives” or “ curves are in” - because it is again placing the focus on one type of body while indirectly calling the other type inferior to it.

There’s no winning for women, is it? It’s about understanding that your worth isn’t tied to how you look but to treating your body with respect—nourishing it, moving it, and appreciating it for all it does for you. At Spirit Animal, it’s not about changing how you look—it’s about empowering how you feel." The Pink Moon

Divya Goenka started this brand in 2017 with the belief that self-esteem shouldn’t depend on a few extra kilos but rather on a person’s inner goodness shining through. The brand designs outfits perfect for parties, the office, and your holiday getaways.
"Most plus-size brands in India and across the world talk about embracing body positivity. How they do this is usually through visual and verbal language that calls out being “big” and asking “big” women to celebrate their size. But rather than celebrating body positivity, it aims to normalise plus-sizedness. It makes the case that being above a certain size that most brands produce for does not make women abnormal or even extra-special. It makes them women, who have other things beyond their size to focus on. For Pink Moon, plus-sizedness is not an identity." Divya told SheThePeople.

Freakins

Freakins, a fast-growing denim brand in India, was founded by Shaan Shah and Puneet Sehgal in 2018. The brand quickly gained traction for offering trendy, high-quality denim at affordable prices, catering to all sizes. Freakins is catering to major denim fashion among millennials and Gen Z. With plans to expand into international markets such as the UAE, Japan, and Europe, the brand aims to become an INR 100 Crore business by the end of 2024.

Aramya

With a size range from M to 10 XL, Aramya is setting up major ethnic trends in India. The true essence of Indian fashion lies in its vibrant colours, intricate designs, and the rich stories they carry. Aramya's collection brings out the vibrance with its size-inclusive designs.
The brand celebrates all body shapes and sizes. What sets Aramya apart is its commitment to subtle yet stylish ethnic designs. Their clothing exudes elegance, power, sophistication, and an air of royalty, making it an ideal brand for ethnic shopping.
True style knows no size, it's about confidence and self-expression!
