She is the world, she is the people and she is the content. A woman is not obliged to anyone when it comes to curating her dreams and voice. This was a great conversation to end the 2019 Digital Women Awards with, where we witnessed an ensemble of women signifying success, voice and independence. To reiterate that women can create their own world and content, was the aim of the last panel of the day, which was moderated by Shonali Advani from SheThePeople.TV. The speakers on this panel were YouTubers Ekta Chaudhary whose channel is Garden Up, Kabita Singh of Kabita's Kitchen and Indrani Biswas whose channel is WonderMunna.

“The power of digital media is tremendous. Through a digital platform, people from small cities and villages can access knowledge and gain exposure for their talents. I am the biggest example of how the digital and online world has the power to transform lives. - Kabita Singh
How did social platforms help to empower
Tracing their journeys from digital novices to the success they have achieved today, the speakers talked about how digital played a pivotal role in making what they are today. Indrani Biswas said, “Digital platform for me was the means to achieve voice and power. It was through my YouTube channel that I gained recognition among people. Besides, the digital platform became an engaging space, where I could talk about things that are rarely discussed openly (like periods, superstition, dowry, etc). I could also address the replies and get to know the stories of people who were a part of the silence discusses and could finally get a means to express.”

Reflecting on how digital has helped her in life, Kabita Singh said, “The power of digital media is tremendous. Through a digital platform, people from small cities and villages can access knowledge and gain exposure for their talents. I am the biggest example of how the digital and online world has the power to transform lives. Being a housewife and mother, without the digital platform, it would not have been possible for me to come this far, share my recipes with people across the world while simultaneously taking care of my house. Digital provides a platform where people can explore the world while within the comfort of your home.”

Drawing on her individual experience, Ekta Chaudhary said, “Digital platform helps people to connect with each other. One does not only connects with what the people say on YouTube but also how they look, dress-up, their personality. The Internet allows people to be real and authentic and the audience can also build a connection them as they can identify with their real situations.”
The success of online content or storytelling depends on how you want to narrate it. Every content has a story, be it about cooking or fashion. - Ekta Chaudhary
How to use the internet and storytelling to talk about products?
Indrani said, “If you want to be successful in something you are good at, digital provides you with that platform. But, to be successful, being consistent in doing what you love is very important.”
Kabita further added to this by saying, “If you love what you do, you can create a good content according to the demand of people, you are consistent in making it, you can definitely be successful in it.”
While brands and trends are important for successful digital entrepreneurship, the way you present your talent to people plays an equally significant role in the process. Ekta said, “The success of online content or storytelling depends on how you want to narrate it. Every content has a story, be it about cooking or fashion. The way you choose to present it or promote it to build a connection with the audience leverages your success.”
