Shweta Singh Journey

“My parents said, ‘tere bina ghar khali khali lagta hai!’ And we couldn’t hold our tears at the airport. Papa never shows his emotions but the moment I hugged him at the airport before leaving for Australia he couldn't hold back. He kissed my forehead & said, ‘meri beti sach mein badi ho gaye hai, go live your dreams and make our country proud! My parents have raised me against the social convention of ‘log kya kahenge!’

As soon as we reached the Airport, we were in a hurry. I was more determined to go abroad to resume my studies and work. While filming for my YouTube vlog, I saw my mother burst out in tears saying to me that the house feels empty without you and that feeling was more than anything to me. I noticed my father was also shedding tears. It was hard to leave my parent's home and move out abroad.

Now, It’s been one year and 2 months in Adelaide, Australia and this year I will be graduating. I get busy with my assignments, classes, and internships but my parents never miss a chance to sneak a quick video call. And that moment takes away all my worries instantly. The memories I had with my family, such as spending time and sharing life with my parents in person hold a very special place in my heart.

After coming here things were not as I expected. I started with a small part-time job in a convenience store and constantly worked on myself to fit in this new environment but later I realised that being myself has helped me a lot to know myself better and gain confidence. This confidence has helped me to overcome my fears and brought me a lot closer to achieving my career goals. As a part of it, I started to capture little moments of my life with confidence such as hair, dance videos, and vlogging stuff, and along with it, I am helping to influence new students to settle their life in Australia through my Instagram handle. My story is still unfinished and many more milestones to achieve this was all possible only because of my parents because they had faith in me and motivated me in my highs and lows.

My parents' belief and my hard work have got me here. I am the first person in my entire family to study abroad. They always supported my dreams and encouraged me to break stereotypes and take challenges. And trust me, if a girl from the city of Agra can live her dreams, so can you!”
