Daniella Mendonca, whose journey in Amazon Prime's Rainbow Rishta sheds light on her unique path as a queer individual, spoke to SheThePeople about facing tough times and how she worked through them. She also discussed her journey, from finding a caring partner to making her dream wedding a reality. She tackled each difficulty step-by-step with determination and strength.
In the show, we see Mendonca battling through every small detail, from picking wedding invites to finding the perfect venue and outfit, all while managing the expenses herself. It was an emotional journey, filled with ups and downs, but her resilience and unwavering determination shone through as she persisted, turning her dream into a beautiful reality.
On Embracing Vulnerability And Seeking Support
In conversation, she opened up on how important it is to keep trying when things are hard. She also stressed not to give up on life, to keep fighting for your place, and to come back even stronger after tough times.
Sometimes, you hit a point where everything seems to collapse, or there are moments when you feel like it's all falling apart. Mendonca believes differently, though. She sees those moments as a beginning, not an end. She thinks it's okay to seek help when you're at your lowest—it's actually the first step towards moving forward and finding success.
It is okay to cry, it's okay to be vulnerable, and it is okay to seek help. And after you've seen that help, after you find out, you will realise that you can do that, and you will be able to come back and strive and slay out there. But the only thing is that you need to realise that I need help. And you need to take the first step towards that help.
Encouraging the queer community, Mendonca advises reaching out for help during challenging moments, embracing vulnerability, and seeking assistance. In today's world, she added, there's substantial support for the queer community, and she encourages individuals to take that crucial first step in finding solutions together.
Evolution of Acceptance
From being born intersex in a traditional family to finding her home within a transgender community, taking charge of life early on, and caring for her elderly parents, her life is indeed transformative, but what's more transformative is what she shared. From facing her father's initial lack of acceptance to the profound moment when her father celebrated her wedding day, she described the transformation.
I think back on my own lengthy journey towards self-acceptance, a journey that stretched over 23 years. I've come to realise that expecting immediate acceptance from my father or relatives isn't fair or realistic.
Her wedding in the show stood out as a highly celebrated moment among viewers and held a special place in the hearts of the creators. Discover more about this unforgettable event in our exclusive interview with Jaydeep Sarkar, the director of the show.
