In a heartbreaking accident, two Indian students, studying in Scotland died during a hike. Their bodies, recovered on the night of April 17, were reportedly washed away to a nearby tunnel. The duo died falling into a famous waterfall in Scotland while hiking along with other people who were with them.
Both the deceased Indians were students of Dundee University in Scotland, pursuing Master's Degrees and are identified as Chanhakya Bolisetti (22) and Jitendranath Karuturi aka Jitu (26). The two belong to Hyderabad, Telangana.
Indian Students Die At Scotland Waterfall By Drowning
As studying abroad can be isolating for many, finding people from your town is a delight, that too in the same University and course is rare. Two such friends, Chanhakya and Jitu, both hailing from Hyderabad became friends while studying M.Sc at the Dundee University of Scotland.
The two friends who decided to go for a simple hike at the famous tourist spot, Linn of Tummel waterfall in Blair Atholl would have never thought a fun hike would turn into a disastrous tragedy.
On April 17, trying to take a selfie the two reportedly fell into the waterfall and were swept away by the strong currents of the Linn of Tummel waterfall near Blair Atholl in Perthshire, as their bodies were found floating by the locals nearby on Wednesday night and were reported to the police authorities.
Emergency services, including police, firefighters, and ambulance crews, rushed to the scene upon receiving an alert. A search and rescue operation was launched, but both Jitu and Chanhakya were recovered dead. The bodies were sent for post-mortem, however, no suspicious circumstances surrounding the fatalities appeared.
The families of the two back in India were informed by the Indian consulate General and the process of returning the bodies would be conducted after the complete post-mortem is done. A consular representative is also in touch with a UK student of the University who promised to help in every way possible with the incident.
Jitu has studied in the US earlier and had working experience, while Chanhakya recently graduated from JNTUH College of Engineering Hyderabad in 2022.
