The Wonder Woman 1984 trailer is finally here and it seems like this sequel is going to be as dazzling as the 2017 film on Wonder Woman, if not more. Like the prequel, Wonder Woman 1984 also stars Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, and is directed by Patty Jenkins. The trailer also gives the audience a glimpse of the two formidable foes that Wonder Woman will be fighting in this movie- Maxwell Lord, played by Pedro Pascal, and Barbara Ann Minerva aka 'The Cheetah' played by Kristen Wiig. Actor Chris Pine’s character Steve Trevor makes a return as Diana’s love interest.
The film also features returning Wonder Woman stars Connie Nielsen as Amazonian queen and Diana's mother Hippolyta, and Robin Wright as Hippolyta's sister and Amazon army general, Antiope. New additions to this sequel include Natasha Rothwell, Ravi Patel, Gabriella Wilde, Kristoffer Polaha, and Amr Waked. The trailer for Wonder Woman 1984 was unveiled at the ongoing DC Fandome event, and while the film has been ready for a while, the coronavirus pandemic has pushed its release to October. The final date is yet to be announced.

What Has Gotten Fans Excited About The Trailer
The trailer shows the entry of the villainous Cheetah in her final form into the Wonder Woman film series. The character was created for DC Comics by William Moulton and she commonly appears in the comic books as the archenemy of Wonder Woman. In the trailer, she is a woman endowed with godlike powers (much like Wonder Woman) but is a complete contrast to the protagonist. Cheetah uses her powers for selfish reasons and personal good. “I don’t wanna be like anyone, I wanna be an apex predator,” she tells Wonder Woman, before attacking her inside what looks like the White House. A scintillating fight sequence is what follows. Although we are shown only some crucial shots from the fight, a strong woman taking on another strong woman headlong? Now that seems like a plot to look forward to! The trailer also hints at a tragic angle to Cheetah, which consequently raises the curiosity levels: “You’ve always had everything. Well, people like me have had nothing. Now it’s my turn. Get used to it”, she tells Wonder Woman.

Another antagonist named Maxwell Lord is shown several times in the trailer. From his history in the DC Comics universe, we know that he is a businessman who develops a form of mind control power that ‘nudges’ people to do his bidding. He is well-known for making Diana aka Wonder Woman cross a line that she had never crossed before, and hopefully by the looks of it, the film is going to pursue that narrative too. The trailer also shows off Wonder Woman’s new suit. The opening action scene is set in Themyscira, and suffice to say that segment looks grand. All in all, Wonder Woman 1984 promises to be bigger and more magnificent than its prequel. Now only time will tell how much it lives up to that promise. Check out the trailer below.
