Wonder Woman 1984 Release Date Pushed Back to October

Warner Bros. announced on June 12 that the release date for Gal Gadot-starrer Wonder Woman 1984 is being pushed back once again, this time to October. This is the fourth time that the studio is shifting release dates for the sequel to 2017's hit superhero film Wonder Woman.

Wonder Woman 1984 was initially slated for release on December 13, 2019. The date was advanced to November and then postponed again to June 2020. Producer Charles Roven explained the reason for this, saying that the film could do with some additional work on pre and post-production.

Fans were bummed, but Gadot pointed out that WW 1984 would now release in the same month as the previous one had done in 2017. However, the film could not stay in its "rightful home" and was yet again postponed for release in August, following the breakout of coronavirus. Since the spread of the virus is still rampant in the US, the studio made the decision to postpone WW 1984's release date to October 10, 2020.

Gadot took to Twitter to express her excitement, assuring fans of the series that "it will be worth the wait".

WW 1984 director Patty Jenkins also confirmed the news and thanked the fans for their unshakeable support.

Warner Bros. Delays Other Releases

This announcement by Warner Bros. comes on the heels of another one it made regarding Christoper Nolan's Tenet. The studio notified that it was pushing back the release for the thriller from July 17 to July 31, a delay of two weeks. However, it was confirmed that the movie will not be seeing any more setbacks, The Hindu reported. Nolan fans are already touting Tenet as the most anticipated movie of the year, with a big budget and ace cast that includes John David Washington and Robert Pattinson.

Other Warner Bros. films whose releases have been delayed are Godzilla vs. Kong, Tom & Jerry, The Witches, and Matrix 4. Though some theatres in the US have begun opening shutters, the industry will come into its own only from July. "AMC Theaters, the world’s largest theater operator, said Tuesday that it expects to have 97-98% of its theaters worldwide reopened by mid-July," Associated Press reported.
