Sudha Kongara's latest directional venture, Paava Kadhaigal is set to release on Netflix tomorrow on December 18, 2020. According to actor Madhavan, who has worked in Kongara's Hindi debut film Saala Khadoos, this upcoming short film will be Kongara's finest work till date.
The short film, Paava Kadhaigal, is a love story set in a small village. The themes of non-binary relationships, caste, class, the status of women in Tamil rural families is explored. The film also features a transgender character played by Kalidas Jayaram. The film has Tamil actors Sai Pallavi, Anjali, Gautham Menon, Simran, Pankaj Raj Shanthanu Bhagyaraj and Bollywood actor Kalki Koechlin as its cast members.
An exclusive story on Indian Express had Sudha Kongara talk about how the script of Paava Kadhaigal moved her. She said, " I was just sobbing as I was reading it. And after I finished reading it, I took a picture of myself, and I told Shaan, ‘I can’t talk beyond this, and I want to do this.’ That’s how I fell in love with this story".

Kongara started her cinematic career under the mentorship of Tamil legend Mani Ratnam. She worked under him for seven years as an assistant director in many of his films during that tenure. Kongara first wrote Irudhi Suttru and later adapted the movie in Hindi as Saala Kadoos and in Telugu as Guru. For the Hindi remake Saal Kadoos, she received a Filmfare Award for Best Director. This year, she also came out with Soorarai Pottru, an amazon prime movie starring Tamil actor Suriya, which received rave reviews .
