Hazel Grace and Augustus Waters from The Fault In Our Stars

Based on a novel by the same name written by John Green, The Fault In Our Stars is the story of two star-crossed young lovers dealing with life-threatening illnesses. Hazel Grace (Shailene Woodley)  and Augustus Waters (Ansel Elgort) teach us that we should be grateful for the time we have with our partners. Hazel explained this with the help of the mathematics behind infinities, "There are days, many of them when I resent the size of my unbounded set. I want more numbers than I’m likely to get, and God, I want more numbers for Augustus Waters than he got. But, Gus, my love, I cannot tell you how thankful I am for our little infinity. I wouldn’t trade it for the world. You gave me a forever within the numbered days, and I’m grateful."

It is only when you realise that you have limited time to spend with your beloved, does it truly dawn on many, how valuable that time is. While Hazel and Augustus had such little time, many of us are fortunate to have plenty. But do we cherish it?

Veer and Zaara from Veer Zaara

Director Yash Chopra, known as the "King of Romance" gave us many memorable romantic films, with relationships that were either very complicated or straight out of fairytales. One such film was Veer Zaara, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Priety Zinta.

Veer Zaara taught us that sometimes it is okay to sacrifice in love. Veer stepped back from Zaara's life so that she could be happy with her family. This film also portrayed how some bonds have the power to outwit time and all the tests that it brings with it. The couple spends decades apart from each other, and yet they never give up on their love. A lesson most millennials, who are in long-distance relationships may relate with.

Lou and Will bring to us an inevitable reality of relationships: you aren't always responsible for each other's decisions. When a relationship ends up in a tragedy, the partner left behind often has to deal with guilt, as they access what all could they have done better. But Me Before You tells us that this isn't always true and which is why one must move one, keeping the love of their relationship in their heart, but not the unnecessary guilt.

This 2016 romantic drama starring Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin, which is also a book adaptation based on the work of author Jojo Moyes, brought us the story of a very unconventional couple.

Lara Jean and Peter Kavinsky from To All The Boys I've Loved Before

This Netflix rom-com starring Lana Condor as Lara Jean and Noah Centineo as Peter got rave reviews from both youngsters and adults alike. this film evokes a bitter-sweet nostalgia about past relationships one experiences, filling the heart with a hum that brings a smile to your lips.

Lara Jean and Peter Kavinsky taught us that communication is very important in a relationship. If LJ had not told Peter how she felt about him, in the end, they would have not ended together. The same stands true for Peter too. If he had told LJ that he likes her, it would have turned their fake relationship to a true one sooner.

Barfi and Jhilmil in Barfi!

Just like its name, Barfi! is a soft and sweet film which brings us a love story that truly embodies the phrase "love knows no bounds." Starring Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra in lead roles, Barfi! is about two people who are challenged, and yet manage to communicate and connect. It tells us how love will eventually find a way of expression and that it isn't always words that can be used to define it in a relationship. Sometimes it is just sweet gesture and dedication in your actions that speak louder than words.
