Keerthy Suresh shines through the trailer of Miss India

The film follows the story of Samyukhta Manasa (played by Keerthy Suresh), whose family tries to dissuade her from turning into a businesswoman, telling her instead to pursue a regular day job. But Samyukhta is not one to be fettered down to a computer table in a closed room with four walls. Her dreams are big, and her drive to fulfil them, even bigger. Combatting naysayers and raised eyebrows, she asserts the beginning of her new business of the Indian chai. Between drool-worthy shots of elaichi crushed in slo-mo and tea aromas rising, Samyukhta takes her chai business to the US.

"Business is not a game for women. Business is war," is what she is told when confronted here by the daunting coffee baron KSK, played by Jagapathi Babu. Unfazed, however, Samyukhta replies, "I am born to do business." She meets his eye with a look that says the game is afoot. Hereon, we see her building her venture under the label 'Miss India' and challenging the norms of the male-dominated business world.

Chai Lovers Unite!

In times when we frown on the West for its terrible exoticisation of India's "chai tea," Miss India serves the world an apt statement to not mess with our beloved drink. When Suresh claims her business is on "chai, our Indian chai," it is a woman's rightful reclamation of the business sphere as well as a counter to cultural appropriation of tradition. The film, even though is being marketed as a romantic drama, seems to delve into issues much deeper than just a boy/girl story.

Speaking about the film, Keerthy Suresh said, “Miss India is the beautifully crafted story of Samyukhta, who is determined to not let anything stop her from achieving her dreams. I’m glad this film is releasing on Netflix to a global audience because I feel like it will encourage and inspire many young women to follow their hearts and passions, regardless of the language that they would watch it in."
