Iconic English actress, Judi Dench has been featured as the cover star of Vogue magazine's June issue. The 85-year-old actress is the oldest to have become the cover girl of the fashion Bible in its 104-year history. She was photographed before the lockdown and was interviewed while in self-isolation in Surrey by journalist Giles Hattersley. Dench looks elegant in a pink floral silk organza Dolce & Gabbana trench coat on the cover.
Widely known for movies like A Handful of Dust (1988), Tea with Mussolini (1999), Jack and Sarah (1995), 84 Charing Cross Road (1987), Four in The Morning (1965), Victoria and Abdul (2017), Judi Dench won an Oscar for Shakespeare in Love (1999) and has been nominated seven times for various other films. She is acclaimed for her performances in the adaptations of Shakespeare's plays. When questioned about the world being under lockdown, she remarked, “I am sure I feel like everyone else, such unprecedented times are quite hard to comprehend. What is a good thing is that it has made people aware of the predicament of others who are completely alone. If a great deal of kindness comes out of this, then that will be a plus.”

Other actresses inspire
In December last year, veteran Bollywood actress Waheeda Rahman came out as an 81-year-old wildlife photographer when she put her pictures from the global safari in an exhibition. She had always had a fancy for photography and used to take her camera to the sets. Now that she has left the industry, she decided to solely follow this passion. Lensman Himanshuu Sheth is her mentor, who was connected to her by her son and has accompanied her for her global safaris for over six years now. Next up on her bucket list is scuba diving. Another famed actress of Hindi cinema, Asha Parekh last year revealed why she preaches being single. She was completely put off by the “whole premise of marriage.” She further said, “Marriage is not all rainbows and butterflies; you have to give in to your partner’s whims every now and then, and that’s a two-way street.” Read about her advocacy for singlehood here.
