As we know, 2020 was not the year for movie goers. Most of the films were released on OTT platforms this year for us to enjoy at home. With life slowly getting back to normal, we can expect to step out of our homes to visit the theatres again in the new year. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the release of several Bollywood films was put off. Additionally, there are also movies which were originally set aside to release in 2021. Let's have a look at some female centred movies which are expected to see a theatre release in the initial months next year.
1. Shabaash Mithu
Actress Taapsee Pannu took to Twitter in the beginning of 2020 to announce the release of her upcoming movie Shabaash Mithu. It is a biopic based on the life of Mithali Raj, the captain of Women's Cricket team, India. In the first look of the movie's poster, we see Pannu posing with her cricket bat. The actress has been raising the bar with her stellar performances in Pink, Thappad, Saand Ki Aankh and many more feminist movies. Her fans are looking forward to this one as well. Shabaash Mithu is releasing on Feb 05, 2021.

2. Sherni
Sherni is an Amit Masurkar directorial. It stars Vidya Balan who will be seen playing the role of a forest officer. She announced her new film through an Instagram post on Feb 13, 2020. Though the release date is not known yet, it is expected to be an initial of 2021. Balan was last seen in Shakuntala Devi, the 2020 biopic of the great writer and mental calculator.
3. Rashmi Rocket
Taapsee Pannu will be seen playing the role of an athlete who hails from Kutch, Gujarat in this film. The Naam Shabana actress is mainly known for her work in female centred movies and this one is no different. We can look forward to its release in theatres in the initial months of 2021. According to Pannu's Instagram post, she has nearly completed shooting for the film directed by Akarsh Khurana.
4. Gangubai Kathiawadi
Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Gangubai Kathiawadi was supposed to release on Sep 11, 2020. However, the release date was postponed. Now we can hope to see it in theatres once it is cleared of all the controversies. The movie is based on a chapter from Hussain Zaid's novel Mafia Queens of Mumbai. Alia Bhatt will be playing the lead role of a brothel owner and a strong female character. On Jan 15, 2020, the Udta Punjab actress shared the first look of her upcoming project on her Instagram handle.
5. Saina
Earlier signed by Sharddha Kapoor, Saina has now been taken up by Parineeti Chopra. It is a biopic of the ace badminton player Saina Nehwal and is surely going to be a source of inspiration for the audience. This Amole Gupte film might hit the theatre screens in the beginning of 2021.
We got to see Chappak, Gunjan Saxena, Bulbbul and many more female centred movies this year. As for 2021, there are chances of the aforementioned movies releasing in theatres.
