Infertility is commonly seen in both males and females. Infertility in women can be due to factors such as endometriosis, blockage in the fallopian tube, premature ovarian failure, PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome), uterine fibroids, irregular periods, immune problems, and cystic fibrosis. Whereas, in men, infertility is because of semen ejection, enlargement of the scrotum vein (Varicocele), low sperm count and quality, azoospermia (semen doesn't contain sperm), and poor sperm motility. Hence, couples are advised to opt for in vitro fertilization (IVF) wherein the ovaries are stimulated to produce eggs and later retrieved and fertilized with sperm in the ab to achieve pregnancy. However, there are various myths associated with IVF that prevent couples from opting for this procedure which can be a boon for them.

Myths About IVF In Indian Society

Myth#1: All children born through IVF are not biological children

Fact: This is one of the most common misconceptions. Children born through IVF are indeed biological children. The only difference is the method of conception. In IVF, fertilization occurs outside the body, but the genetic material (egg and sperm) comes directly from the biological parents. Therefore, the child is genetically related to the parents, just like a child conceived naturally. The entire process uses the biological gametes of the parents, resulting in a child who is genetically theirs.

However in some cases, where it is impossible for couple to use their own sperm/eggs, fertility specialists will recommend, using a donor’s egg/sperm.

Myth#3: IVF babies are unhealthy

Fact: Various studies have confirmed that IVF babies are as healthy as those conceived naturally. So, don’t be afraid or panic and you can certainly undergo IVF treatment.
