G20 Goal: Women's Participation In Labour To Be Enhanced

Bhupendra Yadav the Union Minister for Labour Employment conveyed in a statement that the world has resolved to make a human-centric recovery through Labour 20. Labour 20 or L20 is one of the eleven engagement groups at G20. L20 unites trade union leaders from G20 nations to build policies and address issues relevant to the labour cause.

At the L20 inception meeting at Amritsar, Yadav stated that ensuring that the workers possess the knowledge and skills to equip themselves is important.

He put forward that social security and its portability across the world is an issue that needs to be discussed. The informal sector too should be brought under the umbrella of social security. He added that social security needs to be a well-balanced mix of social assistance schemes and social insurance.

Labour 20 Goals For Women's Inclusion

The Labour 20 goal as conveyed by Shri Yadav is in alignment with India's G20 Presidency scheme of Nari Shakti. He stated women's participation has to be enhanced in the labour force leading to the growth of an inclusive, equitable and developed society.

Yadav reiterated India's theme of VasudhaivaKutumbakam where nations can forward to envision one earth, one family, and one future. This vision propels G20 nations to attain concrete outcomes.

He added that over the years L20 under the umbrella of G20 has put forward labour policies addressing labour market obstacles that have been collectively agreed upon. In addition to this, the formulation of such policies also has to factor in the technological development that has taken place over the years. The technological change has resulted in a change in the ways of hiring and skill deficits.

The Labour 20 goal under India's G20 Presidency this year other than increasing and creating conducive environments for women's participation is focusing on the portability of social security funding and social security. It also seeks to explore the future of work around labour. Shri Yadav conveyed that all G20 nations this year would be coming up with collective actionable outcomes surrounding labour work.
