The event was inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who emphasised the importance of human-centric development and the need to address the trust deficit in global supply chains, a challenge brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. Modi warmly welcomed world leaders and foreign delegates to New Delhi for the summit. However, it's worth noting that divisions within the G20 persisted, particularly regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict and China's ambitions in the Indo-Pacific and South China Sea.

At the heart of the summit, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the imperative of transforming the "global trust deficit" into a foundation of trust among nations. He underscored that India's G20 presidency symbolises inclusivity, both domestically and internationally.

The agenda of the G20 Summit also includes several anticipated bilateral meetings with key countries such as the UK, Japan, Germany, and Italy. These meetings are expected to address various global issues and foster collaboration.

The Summit's theme, "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam," or "One Earth, One Family, One Future," reflects an ancient Sanskrit text from the Maha Upanishad. This theme underscores the intrinsic value of all life forms, encompassing humans, animals, plants, and microorganisms, and highlights their interconnectedness on our planet Earth and within the broader universe.
