Indian pasta recipes is our own way of adding a desi touch to the Italian cuisine. Pasta cooked with some of the authentic Indian spices is a fusion that lives rent free in the hearts of Indians. A pinch of garam masala and coriander can add that desi zing to your pasta that you crave for.
Indians have a long history of experimenting with food. Any dish of a foreign cuisine is sure to go through a test and trial phase where it is subjected to several different types of tarkas, chutney and masalas. Sometimes the result is delicious. Who can forget the fab aloo-tikki burger for example? At other times our desi twists don't prove to be that appetising.
From rajma tacos, paneer noodles to idli manchurian, the list is endless. One of the popular food fusions that happen in almost every household is Indian pasta recipes, everyone's favourite with a desi twist.
Indian Pasta Recipes : The Indo-Italian Fusion We Love
When we talk about Indian pasta recipes, we are not talking about cooking it in desi ghee, as some of you might assume. Let's be honest, we are not a fan of that combination. Desi ghee and pasta are better not together. But something that goes well with your pasta are Indian spices like cardamom, fennel, cumin, turmeric and clove. These spices add a new flavour and aroma to the traditional Italian food.
We Indians like our food a little spicy so we don't like our pasta plain. Indian spices save the day when you want to spice up your bechamel sauce, you want to make your arrabiata a bit more smoky or you are out of Italian seasonings which are, to be honest, not readily available to everyone. Not having Italian seasoning should not be a reason to miss out on pasta. So if you don't have Italian seasonings or are bored of eating pasta the classic way, here are some Indian pasta recipes that will be a desi Italian treat for your taste buds.
Indian Pasta Recipes :- Doing It The Desi Way
Potato Fusilli Pasta
- Melt 1 tbsp butter in a kadhai and add 1 tsp cumin seeds to it. When the cumin splutters, add 2 chopped onions and saute until they turn brown.
- Add 1 tsp coriander powder, 1 tsp chilli powder and 1/2 tsp turmeric powder to onions and saute.
- Add a little water to the spices and cook for 3 minutes. Now add 1 chopped tomato and 1 chopped capsicum and saute for 2 minutes.
- Take 1 boiled potato and cut it into cubes. Add it to the vegetables followed by 200 gm of boiled fusilli pasta and salt to taste.
- Mix well and cook for 2 minutes. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
Indian Tomato Sauce Pasta With Vegetables
- In a pan, heat 1 tsp oil and 1 tsp butter and saute 2 chopped garlic cloves and chopped ginger (1 inch) for 2 minutes.
- Add 1/2 chopped onion and saute until it turns soft. Then add 1 cup of tomato pulp and saute till it thickens.
- Then add 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, 1/2 tsp chilli powder, 1/2 tsp salt and 1/2 tsp garam masala and cook until the oil separates.
- Add 7 florets of brocolli, 2 tbsp corn, 2 tbsp peas, 1/4 chopped carrot and 1/4 chooped capsicum to the sauce and sauce for 1 minute.
- Add 3 tbsp water and cover with a lid. Simmer and cook for 5 minutes.
- Add 2 tbsp tomato ketchup and 1 cup cooked pasta and mix well. Cook for a minute. Serve hot.
Indian Paneer Pasta
- Heat 1 tsp butter and 2 tsp oil and saute 1/2 tsp chopped ginger and 1/2 tsp chopped garlic for a minute.
- Add 1 chopped onion and saute until golden. Now add 1 chopped tomato and 1 tsp tomato ketchup and saute until tomatoes turn mushy.
- Add 1 chopped carrot, 1 tsp chilli powder and salt to taste and cook for 1 minute.
- Then add 1/2 cup grated paneer and mix well. Add 2 tbsp water and let the paneer sauce boil.
- Add 1 and 1/4 cup cooked pasta and mix well. Add 1/2 tsp garam masala and cook for 1 minute. Serve hot.
Indian Bean Sprout Macaroni Salad
- In a bowl, combine 2 tsp oil, 1 tsp lemon juice, 1 tsp chopped garlic, 1 tsp chopped green chilli, salt to taste and 1/2 tsp chilli powder for dressing.
- In another bowl, add 1 cup bean sprouts, 3/4 cup boiled macaroni, 1/4 chopped capsicum, 1/4 cup chopped tomatoes, 1/2 cup grated paneer, salt and black pepper powder to taste. Mix well.
- Add the dressing that you prepared and mix well. Salad is ready to serve.
Indian Chicken Pasta
- Heat 1 tsp oil in a pan. Add 1 chopped onion and 1/2 tsp ginger garlic paste and saute until the raw smell vanishes.
- Then add 1 chopped tomato, 1/2 tsp chilli powder, 1/2 tsp garam masala and salt to taste and saute until tomatoes are cooked well.
- Then add 1/2 cup chopped capsicum and saute for 1 minute. Then add 3 piece chicken breast (washed, cleaned and chopped).
- Mix the spices well so that the chicken is coated. Saute for a minute before adding 1/2 cup water to the pan.
- Cook the chicken on medium flame until it is well done and masala gets dry. Now add 1 cup boiled bow-tie pasta and mix well.
- Garnish with coriander leaves and cheese and serve hot.
Indians are always great at adding their essence to things and food is not vary of it. We influence the world, how can we not influence our favourite food.
