Zendaya Opens Up About Being Perceived As "Cold" And "Mean" In Hollywood

Zendaya also mentioned that as a child, her parents sent her to counseling to help her cope with anxiety and shyness.

Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman, who won her first Emmy last year, recently opened up about how Hollywood perceived her as "cold" and "mean" because she doesn't know how to start a "conversation". She also revealed how that has changed and impacted her over the years. The Spider-Man: Far From Home actor told GQ in an interview, “In this industry, I had to learn how to do small talk and stuff, because I guess I would kind of come off cold to people because I didn't really know how to start conversation.”

Zendaya, at age 24, created history at the 72nd Emmy Awards by becoming the youngest winner of the Best Actress in the Drama category, for HBO’s series Euphoria in which she plays the role of Rue Bennet.

Further explaining how she'd dealt with anxiety and shyness throughout her life, the Greatest Showman actor told the magazine, "With my family and friends, I can go back and forth on a topic for no reason." She also mentioned that as a child, her parents sent her to counseling to help her cope with anxiety.

“I remember my stylist was like, ‘You come off kind of cold. People think you're mean because you don't talk,’ when really I just was too nervous,” the actress recalled adding “And that's why we talk to therapists," she admitted. "That's important.”

On the work front, Zendaya’s upcoming film Malcolm & Marie trailer was recently dropped by Netflix. The film also stars John David Washington in the lead role.
