And the digital streaming services are helping, to an extent, in not letting the women-centric projects disappear among the vast online content. We’ve rounded up a selection of newly released female-led films and series that are worth the watch.

Shaadisthan
Where to watch: Disney Hotstar+
The Kriti Kulhari starrer focuses on a band of nonconformist musicians and conservative parents of a teenage girl, travelling in a van. During the journey we are shown clashing ideologies and beliefs. The ensemble cast also includes actors like Medha Shankar, Nivedita Bhattacharya, real-life musicians Shenpenn Khymsar in pivotal roles, and Kay Kay Menon in cameo appearance.
Skater girl
Where to watch: Netflix
The film set in the rural districts of Rajasthan revolves around a teen living in rural India, who discovers a life-changing passion for skateboarding. Directed by Manjari Makijany, Skater Girl also features veteran actor Waheeda Rehman as Maharani.
Maharani
Where to watch: Sony Liv
The web-series created by Subhash Kapoor features Huma Qureshi in the titular role. Set in the backdrop of 90’s Bihar, Maharani tells the story of a political leader who fights the systemic oppression of women. The film focuses on the real-life rise of a woman, from being the wife of a leader to ascending the Chief Minister seat.
Raya The Last dragon

The Disney animated film Raya and The Last Dragon is set in a mystical land called Kumandra, a kingdom divided into five different lands that Raya has to navigate to find the last dragon. The film is inspired largely by South-East Asian cultures and revolves around a warrior-princess named Raya.
The Handmaid's Tale

The series Handmaid’s Tale is based on the novel by Margaret Atwood, which is set in Gilead, a totalitarian society where women are treated as property of the state, and forced into child-bearing slavery. After three successful seasons, the show is now back with the fourth installment this year.
The Woman in the Window
Where to watch: Netflix
The psychological thriller starring Amy Adams in the titular role is based on the novel of the same name. The actor essays the role of Anna Fox, a Child psychologist, who becomes obsessed with her neighbours and starts to spy on them. The story spans out after she witnesses a crime in their apartment.
