Winona Ryder Stars In Super Bowl Commercial, Says She Felt ‘Surreal’

Winona Ryder Super Bowl commercial gave her fans a blast from the past  as Cadillac released an advertisement as a sequel to "Edward Scissorhands."

Starring Timothée Chalamet as Edward's son, Edgar Scissorhands, and Winona Ryder reprising her role as Kim, the commercial is a follow up of the 1990 cult classic featuring the navigating life after Edgar inherits his father's Scissorhands. (Edward was played by Johnny Depp.)

Ryder told CNN that she was thrilled to return to the role because the original movie holds a special place in her heart. She is currently starring in Netflix's "Stranger Things”.

Ryder further said that the past time is full of great memories, and mentioned that the movie is really special for her as she loves working with filmmaker Tim Burton. She revealed that she wanted to be a part of the ad because General Motors was promoting an electric car and it would finally give Edgar a chance to drive.

Ryder also said that it felt surreal to have Chalamet play the role of her son in the commercial. “He is a beautiful guy. Talented, kind, and unique,” she said. “Really the perfect person to embody that character," added Ryder.

About the commercial

The commercial begins with Ryder’s voiceover as she says, “This is the story of a boy with scissors for hands. No, not that one,” referring to those who may think she’s talking about Johnny Depp’s character. The commercial then shows Ryder as Kim.

In the voiceover, Ryder also reveals her son with Edward is Edgar Scissorhands, played by actor Timothée Chalamet. The commercial then goes on to see the drawbacks that come with having Scissorhands as Chalamet struggles in the basic activities of his daily life.

However, Ryder, playing the role of his mother, notices him driving a virtual reality headset at home, which inspired her to get a Cadillac Lyric electric SUV. The commercial wraps up as we see Edgar driving the car easily with the hands-free technology.

Who is Winona Ryder?

One of Hollywood's most prominent actors, Ryder has done films with several awards, including a Golden Globe Award and has been nominated for two Academy Awards. She was seen in Stranger Things and earlier in iconic films like Age of Innocence, Little Women, Great Balls of Fire etc. Winona Ryder, was named after the town she was born in called Winona and has admitted to having anxiety disorder.
