Who was Pallabi Dey? The popular Bengali television actor Pallabi Dey was found hanging at her rented apartment in South Kolkata on Sunday. The 21-year-old actor was reportedly declared dead after being taken to a nearby hospital, MR Bangur hospital. According to the investigating official, she used to live with her partner in a live-in relationship.
The apartment in the Garfa area of South Kolkata, where her body was found, had been rented by her in April this year. The caretaker of the flat spoke to the media and told them that after finding her body hung in the bedroom, her partner called him aloud. The person also revealed that he along with the housekeeping staff brought down the body and informed the police immediately.
The police officer investigating the case has said that they are exploring it from all angles and are talking to partners to understand the sequence of the incidents. They also informed the media that further details in the case can only be revealed after the post mortem reports are out.

Although news reports suggest that the police through initial investigation believe that the actor died by suicide, however, the family members alleged foul play. Her live-in partner's name is Sagnik Chakraborty. There had been allegations that the couple might have unresolved issues. These allegations were denied by Sagnik's parents.
His mother told the media, "They use to live together. Although we were not in complete support, we allowed them since they are grown-ups. A few times I had asked Sagnik to stay elsewhere and start living together once they are married. They didn't have any major issues. I don't know what happened."

The actor has played the female lead in many Bengali shows like Kunja Chhaya, Resham Jhanpi and the recent show Mon Mane Na.
After her death was formally announced, her co-star Anamitra Batabyal, who used to work with her in Mon Mane Na said, "I'm in utter shock. We shot for the television on May 12 and later had a chat with her. I still can't believe the news."
Another team member from the same show said that she had attended the shoot two days back, and the crew had no idea that she was depressed or disturbed about something.
She became a household name with Resham Jhanpi. Then, she bagged the role of Ami Sirajer Begum, which also starred Sean Banerjee as the male lead. The two had quite a followers base for the period drama show.
