Crane operator and TikTok star from China, Xiao Qiumei, has reportedly passed away at the age of 23 following a tragic accident.
Known for sharing videos from her work, Qiumei was a popular face on Douyin, China's equivalent of video-creating app TikTok. An online community of fans numbering over a lakh is left in shock at her young death as tributes pour in for the late influencer.
As per The Sun, the woman known by her social media handle XiaoQiumei fell 160 feet to her death from atop a crane, from where she was live-streaming a video. The accident occurred around 5:30 PM last week on July 20. Her family confirmed her passing on July 24.
She reportedly had her phone in her hand when she plunged, eyewitnesses said. However, the influencer's family has alleged their daughter could not have been filming during work hours, citing her professionalism.

A video doing rounds on the internet, claiming to be of Qiumei's final moments, allegedly shows her downward descent. The clip being shared shows Qiumei before the footage shows crane equipment as the camera falls.
Though her family has refuted claims of her falling from a crane due to filming content, they have said she died only because she "missed a step" and fell. This occurred near the family's residence in Quzhou, Zhejiang, they said.
23-year-old Qiumei's passing is placed among other influencer deaths that have been reported this year, leaving social media users shocked. A similar incident surfaced from Hong Kong earlier this month when 32-year-old Sophia Cheung lost balance while reportedly clicking a selfie when she was out on a hiking trip with friends in Ha Pak Lai park. Last year, a shocking case emerged from China where a Douyin influencer died after her ex-husband reportedly set her ablaze while she was live-streaming a video for her fans.
