Who Is Falguni Shah? Indian-American Singer Wins Grammy

Shining among other stars at the Grammy Awards 2022, Falguni Shah, an Indian-American singer performed at the stage. She also took home an award for her A Colourful World album in the Best Children's Album category.

Sharing her joy over the same, Shah wrote on Instagram, "I have no words to describe today's magic. What an honor to perform for the opening number of the GRAMMY Premier Ceremony, and then take home a statue on behalf of all the incredible people who worked on A Colorful World. We are humbled and thank the Recording Academy for this tremendous recognition. THANK YOU!"

Falguni Shah is known by her stage name Falu. At Grammy Awards 2022, she was nominated for the second time in the Best Children's Album category. She is the only Indian-origin woman to have the nomination twice. Earlier, her album titled Falu's Bazaar was nominated in the 2018 edition of the Grammy Awards. This year, she stood the winner among other nominees, Activate by 123 Andres, All One Tribe by 1 Tribe Collective, Black to the Future by Pierce Freelon, Crayon Kids by Lucky Diaz, and the Family Jam Band, in the children's album category.

Singer Falguni Shah Bags Grammy

After winning the award, Shah made a lengthy post on Instagram. After expressing her gratitude, she mentioned each and every individual associated with her winning album from instrument players to sound engineers. Falguni Shah has in the past collaborated with the Indian music maestro AR Rahman. Shah, who is in her early 40s, was trained in the Jaipur musical tradition and Banaras style of Thumri. She trained under Kaumudi Munshi and learned semi classical music from Uday Mazumdar. Her official website also says that she studied under the late vocal master and sarangi played Ustad Sultan Khan and Kishori Amonkar.

Falguni Shah moved to the United States of America in 2000 and expanded her career.

She has worked with many renowned musicians such as Yo-Yo Ma, Blues Traveler, Wyclef Jean and Philip Glass. The artist was born in Mumbai city of Maharashtra in Mumbai. Shah is known for her "modern inventive style with a formidable Indian classically-shaped vocal talent".
