Shreya Lenka is the news of the town because she could soon become the first Indian K-Pop idol. Soon to become another Indian with a 'first' title, Shreya is turning heads and is just one step away from creating a milestone and writing her name in the South Korean entertainment industry.
Shreya is one of the two finalists of the global auditions being held by the South Korean music label DR Music. The K-Pop company is auditioning global artists to fill up a vacancy in its already debuted girl group, Black Swan. Shreya is competing against Brazil's contestant, Gabriela Dalcin to become the fifth member of the group.
Who Is Shreya Lenka? Soon-To-Be Indian K-Pop Idol?
Shreya Lenka was born in the Indian town of Rourkela in the state of Odisha in 2003. She is a trained dancer, singer and yoga practitioner. She is well acquainted with Hindustani classical music and is trained in contemporary as well as Odissi, the traditional folk dance of Odisha.
Shreya has deep, baritone vocals and she had difficulty in finding the right musical coach for her in which she was helped by grandmother. Even though she received formal training in Hindustani classical twice a week, this was not the case with Western music. She learnt Western music through online videos and self training instead of formal training.
When DR Music announced the audition for Black Swan girl group in May 2021 after the exit of one of its members, Hyemi, Shreya got the opportunity to try her luck in the South Korean entertainment industry. She became the only Indian in Top 23 and then the finalist. Shreya will be moving to South Korea for one month long idol training along with the Gabriela. The finalists will be evaluated and trained after which one of them will be finalised as the next member of Black Swan.
K-Pop music industry includes artists that can dance and sing well. Shreya Lenka's Instagram is a showcase of her talents ranging from yoga practices to chic dresses and performances. K-Pop fever in India is not new to anyone and an Indian addition to the list of artists is not only going to be a treat for K-Pop fans in India but will also be a proud moment as well.
