Who Is Paoli Dam? 5 Things You Should Know About The Veteran Bengali Actress

Paoli Dam first appeared in Bengali TV serials such as Jibon Niye Khela, Tithir Athiti and Sonar Harin. The artiste later extended her acting career in movies. Dam was last seen in Raat Baaki Hai, a Zee 5 original film. She also made her digital debut on the platform with the Kaali franchise. Dam was born on Oct 04, 1980 in Kolkata, West Bengal.

Her debut Bengali film was Teen Yaari Katha. Though she started working for it in 2004, the movie finally released in 2012. Her first film release was Agnipariksha (2006). There was no looking back since then. The actress has been consistent in her work and earned the appreciation of a huge mass.

1. Paoli Dam's 2011 film Chatrak was screened at the Cannes film festival and at film festivals in Toronto and the U.K. A scene from the film triggered a controversy, post which Vikram Bhatt offered Hate Story to her. Paoli was seen posing topless in the poster. "I had no idea that my character and my identity on the poster would be kept a mystery. When the poster featuring my back was released, a lot of people who knew I was doing the film asked me who was on the poster. I just asked them to wait and watch", said the actress to Times of India. Later, Paoli Dam also worked in Ankur Arora Murder Case directed by Suhail Tatari.

2. At the Hyderabad Bengali Film Festival (2016), Dam bagged the Viewers' Choice Award for Best Actress for her stellar performance in the film Natoker Moto. She also won the Zee Cine Award (2017) for the best Bangla actor (Female) for the film Khawto. Paoli also received a nomination in the Filmfare OTT Awards (2020), best female actor, Series (Drama) category.

3. Paoli pursued Post Graduation in Chemistry from Rajabazar Science College. Her initial aim was to become a chemical researcher or a pilot.

4. Paoli Dam is a trained classical dancer and was also interested in theatre. However, becoming an actor never crossed her mind.

5. In Elar Char Adhyay Paoli played the role of Ela, the emancipated teacher of a group of young revolutionaries. The movie is an adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore's Char Adhyay. The Indian Express described Dam's acting as "wonderful". The Times of India wrote : "Those who thought Paoli’s “Hate Story” outing was all about being bold will be pleasantly surprised by her sheer maturity in reinterpreting boldness in the context of an era long left behind."
