The duo interacted with each other in May 2020 on Crush's song Mayday. The song revolved around the frustration at being stuck at home all day due to the pandemic. The pair began dating after working together on this project.

- Born on 3 September, 1996, Joy's real name is Park Soo-young. The South Korean singer is also an actor and a host. She has been working for the South Korean girl group Red Velvet since 2014. Her vocal coach had given her the name Joy.
- She has also acted in television dramas The Liar and His Lover (2017) and Tempted (2018) and even won the Newcomer Award at the OSEN Cable TV Awards for her performance.
- In 2019, she became the lead actor in the drama Tempted.
- She has two younger sisters. Joy pursued her graduation from School of Performing Arts Seoul.
