R. Madhavan starrer Rocketry- The Nambi Effect, premiered on OTT today, July 26, 2022. Based on the life of scientist Nambi Narayanan, a Padma Bhushan awardee, the movie was released theatrically on July 1, 2022. The movie also features Simran Bagga, opposite Madhavan, reuniting with him onscreen after 17 years.

Rocketry- The Nambi Effect, a biopic based on the life of ISRO’s scientist Nambi Narayanan received varied reactions from audience. Recently a film critic faced flak for expressing that the movie allegedly exaggerated Nambi Narayanan being a “true-blue Hindu patriot”.

Actor Madhavan also came in defense of the movie, “We thought it was in terrible taste too.. this is who Nambi sir is. I am totally okay if you did not like or hated the film and I will take it by the chin..but why this ?? Come on, we are way better than this. Regretful.” Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit said, “This is being Hinduphobic Why does it trouble you if Narayanan is a Hindu patriot and prays during crucial times? Every maker doesn’t justify terms the way #VinodChopra did in Shikara. @ActorMadhavan has done a brilliant job and has the guts to praise it.”

Rocketry is helmed by R. Madhavan, who also acted in the movie. Nambi Narayanan is a prominent engineer at Indian Space Research Organisation and holds the credit for the liquid-fueled Vikas engine which is still used in Indian rockets. The movie was released on Amazon Prime Video on July 26, 2022, available to stream in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada language. The movie also sees the onscreen pairing of Madhavan and Simran Bagga after 17 long years. The duo have worked together previously in Paarthale Paravasam (2001) and Kannathil Muthamittal.  (2002)

R Madhavan plays the titular role, while Simran Bagga portrays the role of his wife, Meena. The film starts off by introducing the scientist to the audience and goes on to showcase the ups and downs of Nambi Narayanan's life in the movie. Nambi Narayanan was framed for espionage and imprisoned in 1994. The film sheds light on his achievements, his role in the country’s space mission, and the imprisonment that acted as the biggest setback in both his personal and professional life.
