Prince Harry revealed that during Meghan Markle’s first trip to London, they secretly met in a supermarket and pretended not to know each other.
The Duke of Sussex talked about how they tried to avoid public attention during the Duchess of Sussex’s first stay at the Kensington Palace. Prince Harry revealed that the couple went to the supermarket “incognito” during an episode of the podcast Armchair Expert hosted by Dax Shepard and Monica Padman.
Prince Harry said they pretended they didn’t know each other and would text each other from the other side of the isles. He added that to try to stay incognito, he wore a baseball cap and was looking down at the floor to hide his face.
During the podcast, Prince Harry also spoke about the challenges of life as a member of the royal family. He described his life as a mix between living in a zoo and The Truman Show (a movie where the protagonist learns his entire life is being watched by millions).
Prince Harry said that “I was in my early twenties and I was thinking I don't want this job, I don't want to be here. I don't want to be doing this.” He added that after he went to therapy he thought to himself “You're in this position of privilege, stop complaining and stop thinking you want something different - make this different.”
Prince Harry added that now that he and Markle live in Santa Barbara, California, he feels different and they both walk a “little more free”.
In 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle signed an exclusive deal with Spotify. Under the deal, the couple will create exclusive content for Spotify with their production company Archewell Audio. The content is expected to appear this year.
Markle said they were motivated to start Archewell Audio because “One of the things my husband and I have always talked about is our passion for meeting people and hearing their stories”.
