The Handmaid's Tale season 5 release date is expected soon enough as the series is to return in 2022. The makers announced a season 5 for the popular series back in December 2020 and hence, it may hit the screens sometime in 2022.
The Handmaid's Tale was released in 2017 on the OTT platform Hulu. The American dystopian series is based on a 1985 novel by Margaret Atwood of the same name. The Award-winning television series is based in a dystopia where the society calls the fertile women of the society 'Handmaids' and engages them into child-bearing slavery. The first season premiered on April 26, 2017, which was immensely popular and the series was nominated and it won many Emmy and Golden Globe Awards.

The Handmaid's Tale is the story of a post civil-war society where fertility rates have declined and it subjects women to exploitation and injustice as their role in the society is limited and restricted. A women named June is forced to child-bearing slavery lives as a concubine to a Gileadan Commander and his wife after she is separated from her husband and daughter by the Commander. The story follows June's journey through discrimination and exploitation and her struggles to reunite with her family.
The series features Elisabeth Moss, Joseph Fiennes and Yvonne Strahovski in lead roles. The show has been created and produced by Bruce Miller. The first season consisted of 10 episodes and was released in 2017. The second, third and fourth seasons were released in 2018, 2019 and 2021 respectively. The second and third season had 13 episodes while the fourth one has 10 episodes in all. The shooting for fourth season was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and hence, it came 2 years after the third one.
The world popular series also had a sequel titled The Testament in 2019, based on another one of Atwood's novels. The series' first season was nominated for 13 Primetime Emmy Awards out of which it won 8 and became first Hulu series to grab an Emmy. It also received Golden Globes Award for Best Actress and Best Television Series.
