Highly-anticipated Netflix feature The Crown is in the works for its fifth season. The historical drama show revolves around Queen of England Elizabeth II and her royal life. The Crown is written and created by Peter Morgan. Actor Imelda Staunton will be playing the role of Queen Elizabeth II in the fifth season of the British series.
The Crown Season 5 started filming in July 2021. The previous four seasons of the series discussed from Queen’s marriage to her son’s wedding with Princess Diana. The upcoming season of the British historical drama series will focus on the events following season 4 mainly set in mid-1990s England.
There is still ambiguity on the plot of fifth season of the show. However, as per reports, it is expected that the season might include the events of the year 1992 when most of Queen's children’s marriages fell apart. The new season will depict the time when Princess Diana and Prince Charles separated and opened up about having extra marital affairs. In the recent pictures released from the sets of The Crown season 5, Elizabeth Debicki was seen stepping out of the car in a black dress, similar to the one worn by late Princess Diana after Prince Charles admitted that he cheated on her. The fans are excited to see how the makers of The Crown will depict that iconic moment covered for years in newspapers and tabloids.
Expected Cast
The Crown Season 5 will feature Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II which was earlier played by Claire Foy in seasons 1 and 2 and Olivia Colman in seasons 3 and 4. Actor Jonathan Pryce is confirmed to be seen as Prince Philip along with Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret, Dominic West as Prince Charles and Elizabeth Debicki playing the role of Princess Diana.
Actors Jonny Lee Miller, Flora Montgomery, Marcia Warren and Olivia Williams are also expected to be seen in Season 5 among others.
The Crown Season 5 Release Date
The Crown Season 5 release date hasn’t been announced yet. The makers declared in September 2021 that the show will return on Netflix with its fifth season in November 2022. “A message from Imelda Staunton, our new Queen Elizabeth. Season 5, coming November 2022, " the Twitter post said.

According to reports, it is expected that the show will renew for a sixth season as well after which the series will be concluded. The Crown Season 6 is expected to portray her reign in the 21st century England.
