One of pop culture's favourite goth kids Wednesday Addams returns in a standalone live-action series directed by Tim Burton for Netflix. It is positioned as a spin-off on the iconic 1991 black comedy The Addams Family, which was in turn based on 1938 cartoons of the same name.
Titled Wednesday, this new series slated to be a coming-of-age comedy marks the television directorial debut of Burton, acclaimed for goth fantasy films like Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands and Goth Bride.
The eight episodes will trace the journey of Wednesday as she attends the Nevermore Academy, shrouded by mystery and supernatural abilities. The show will also reportedly peek back into her parents' - Gomez and Morticia Addams - past from 25 years ago.

Talking about their pitch for the show, Netflix Original Series' director Teddy Biaselli said in a statement, "They nailed the tone, the spirit and the characters, but gave us a fresh way into this story."

As Wednesday Addams returns, it is yet unknown who will play her. The character, however, is irremovably attached to Christina Ricci who played her in the 1991 film and its 1993 sequel Addams Family Values, leading her to recognition.
