Vidya Balan took to her official social media accounts on August 12 to announce the beginning of the shooting for her upcoming project Jalsa helmed by Tumhari Sulu fame Suresh Triveni. Balan will share the lead character's platform with actor Shefali Shah.
The film which is a collaboration of T-Series and Abundantia Entertainment is set to release in the year 2022 and the filming for the same has commenced in Mumbai on Thursday.
Apart from directing the film, Triveni has also co-written the same.
The supporting cast includes Iqbal Khan, Rohini Hattangadi, Surya Kasibhatla, Vidhatri Bandi and Gurpal Singh while Manav Kaul will make a special appearance.
According to a report, the director, writer and producer commented on the commencement of the film, "It is my absolute pleasure to collaborate with T-Series and Abundantia Entertainment on 'Jalsa' and to work with my fantastic crew and cast led by Vidya and Shefali."
They added, "With Jalsa, we hope to engage, thrill and entertain movie-watchers with a unique tale of powerful characters and precarious circumstances."
Vidya Balan On Reuniting With Suresh Triveni
The 42-year-old Dirty Picture actor said on reuniting with Triveni, "I’m very excited to collaborate again with Suresh. "
She added that Tumhari Sulu was a "one-of-a-kind and fun experience" for her which makes her look forward to Jalsa.
Balan added that the movie is an edgy but human story and that she can’t wait to firstly start work on it and then share it with the world.

Shah said that Jalsa was such a story with a unique perspective that when the director first told her about it, she knew she just had to do it. She added that she is looking forward to work with Balan.
