Veteran actor Smriti Biswas, renowned for her work in Hindi, Marathi and Bengali films, has passed away at her residence in Nashik, Maharashtra. According to reports, the 100-year-old actor died late July 3 due to age-related issues. Smriti had been living in a one-room kitchen-rented flat in the Nashik Road area.

On July 4, filmmaker Hansal Mehta paid tribute to the late actor on Instagram by sharing several recent and old photos of her. He wrote, “Go away in peace and to a happier place, dear Smritiji. Thank you for blessing our lives. RIP, Smriti Biswas.”
Who Was Smriti Biswas?
Smriti Biswas began her illustrious career as a child artist and went on to work with some of the most notable filmmakers of her time, including Guru Dutt, V. Shantaram, Mrinal Sen, Bimal Roy, B.R. Chopra, and Raj Kapoor. Her talent and versatility made her a sought-after actor, and she co-starred with prominent actors such as Dev Anand, Kishore Kumar, and Balraj Sahni.
She made her film debut in the Bengali movie Sandhya (1930) and enjoyed a successful career spanning several decades. Her last Hindi film was Model Girl (1960). After her marriage to filmmaker S.D. Narang, Smriti decided to step away from the limelight and quit acting.
Following the death of her husband, Smriti relocated to Nashik, where she spent the rest of her life. She celebrated her 100th birthday on February 17, 2024, marking a century of a life filled with remarkable achievements and contributions to Indian cinema.
Smriti Biswas is survived by her two sons, Rajeev and Satyajeet, who now carry forward her legacy. Her passing marks the end of an era, but her contributions to the film industry and her memorable performances will continue to be celebrated and remembered by fans and colleagues alike.
